FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

New Students

I’m a beginner; which class is best for me?

We recommend all students new to hot yoga begin with the 90-minute Original Bikram Beginning Yoga class. This class is optimal for learning and seeing results.

Am I required to reserve a spot?

Walk-ins are accepted on a space-available basis. Reservations are strongly recommended on weekend mornings and major holidays.

Do you penalize for no-shows?

No, we do NOT penalize for no-shows. If you’ve reserved a space and cannot make it, your unused class credit will be returned to your account the same day.

What if I’m not flexible or have joint pain?

You’ve come to the right place! As long as you try your best, you will receive all of yoga’s powerful benefits. Your instructor can show you how to modify your poses to work with and within your limitations. (Please, do not make-up your own poses!)

I’m worried about being in such a warm room, but I want to try

It takes about 5-10 classes to begin to acclimate to the heat. You’ll soon grow to appreciate and even crave it. Please discuss any concerns with your instructor before the start of class. During class, you may rest on your yoga mat as often as needed.

Transportation & Parking

Visiting from out of town?

If you are taking UBER or LYFT to the studio, make sure they take you to our Monterey location. (Many ride-share drivers incorrectly believe we are located in Pacific Grove).

We are three miles from downtown Carmel and three miles from downtown Pacific Grove. The distances are short, but traffic can be slow at times. Please allow more than enough time to travel; late arrivals are not admitted.

Where should I park?

You’ll find free two-hour street parking along 10th Street, Park Avenue, and Sloat Avenue. We kindly ask our students not to park in the 24-minute spaces. Parking is unrestricted on weekends. Allow a bit of time to walk; you may need to park up to two blocks away.

What if traffic is bad and I arrive late?

All students must arrive before the posted class time. Studio doors close exactly at the posted class time, according to everyone’s cell phone. If you arrive AT the posted classtime,  according to your cell phone, you will find the door locked.

Facilities

Is the air quality safe?

Sweet Heat Hot Yoga’s Monterey facility was constructed at the end of the pandemic, so air quality was our first priority. We have a state-of-the-art HVAC system that continuously mixes fresh outdoor air with sanitized indoor air. This mixed air cycles 9x/hour through two stages of HEPA filtration and back through two stages of sanitation, making our indoor environment far safer than the average building or office.

Do you have showers?

Sorry, no. Local water restrictions make having indoor showers a complicated and costly amenity. Before dressing, we recommend cooling down on our sun-filled outdoor patio.
